Part.1 - What we use plastics for
04.
Why plastics?
Plastic is not a single material. The plastics family is made up of a great variety of materials, just like wood can be oak or pine, and metal can be iron or aluminium for example. The great advantage of plastics over other materials, is that we don’t need to rely on the limited types of materials found in nature. Plastic materials can combine multiple specific properties, offering the best set of performances for present and future innovations:
- Lightweight
- Robust
- Hygienic
- Resistant to water, impact, corrosion, flames, frost…
- Smooth
- Electrical and thermal insulation
- Translucent
- Flexible
- Impermeable
- Shape memory
- …
As products evolve, so do plastic materials, and many of them are still to come.
